His interest in wine began with a summer job at the age of 14, and after growing intrigued, decided to study agronomy in university. Rodrigo wrote his thesis on organic farming, and upon graduating, spent the next ten years back and forth between California and Chile, further expanding his knowledge in organics and biodynamics. Ultimately, Rodrigo brought these experiences to Benziger in the Russian River Valley where he learned to translate his biodynamic knowledge into a minimal-intervention winemaking philosophy. In 2012, after six years in Sonoma, Rodrigo joined the Huneeus family as chief winemaker and moved back to Chile where he transformed the South American vineyards to deliver quality, sustainability and longevity. In 2018, Rodrigo came to Napa Valley to carry out the vision of our founders as the General Manager of the Quintessa Estate. He believes that there is a tremendous opportunity in listening to the vineyard to realize its ultimate potential and looks forward to carrying the vision of Quintessa to the next generation. We believe that the farming for the longevity of a vineyard and a place is the most important thing.

ABOUT HUNEEUS WINES

Spanning generations, the fine wines of the Huneeus family reflect a sense of place and a passion for excellence. After years of running global wine companies, father and son, Agustin Huneeus and Agustin Francisco Huneeus, teamed up in 2004 to establish a portfolio of wines that represent the finest vineyard estates, appellations and wines in the Napa, Sonoma and Willamette Valleys.

It takes generations of focus, passion and determination to build some of the greatest wine brands in the world. Today, the critically-acclaimed wines and estates include Quintessa, Flowers, Faust, Benton-Lane, Leviathan, and Illumination.
